Hotel Cateys

This year we are proud to announce we are sponsoring the Hotel Cateys, Front of House Team of the Year award. The prestigious event takes place this Friday, 23rd November at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge. It is sure to be a glamourous event, as ever celebrating the most successful hotels and hotel employees from across the UK. We will be live tweeting on the night to announce the winner! Good luck to all nominees.

Charity Trek

Our MD Hannah Horler has been supporting the Springboard Charity for a number of years now and this year her support takes the form of a new and exciting challenge. As part of their annual fundraising Hannah and a group of 30 others will be trekking in Vietnam and joining a community project there.

The 70km trek will take them away from all the hustle and bustle and deep into the Hoa Binh Province where they will be hiking through valleys, rice paddies, bamboo forests and mountains.

Their journey will take them to a very poor community in Ham Yen.  Here the average monthly wage is a mere $15USD per month! This is where they will be rolling up their sleeves and over four days help to build a school alongside the locals.

This is one of Springboard’s key fundraising events and makes a significant difference in helping those who need someone to give them a chance in life and support them into employment.  If anyone wishes to donate to this worthy cause you can follow the link below.

Restaurant and Bar Awards

The Nottingham team dusted off our posh frocks and black ties last night to attend the 2018 Nottingham Restaurant and Bar Awards held at Colwick Hall Hotel.

We had been invited to help judge one of the categories, the Young Front of House award and after selecting a short list we were able to go and see the finalists in action at each of their restaurants.

The awards night itself was a great celebration of all the amazing eating and drinking venues in Nottingham and of the people who work at them.

Congratulations again to Daiva Steponaviciute from La Rock in Sandiacre who was our chosen winner. (Pictured here with the award sponsor Kathryn Greenwood from Eden PR Consultants)

A new addition to our team

The New Year starts with an exciting new addition to the Cartwheel team. We are delighted that Amanda Afiya joins us as Non-Executive Director.

After a brief period working as a personal assistant at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park (then owned by Trusthouse Forte), Amanda trained as a journalist with The Caterer. She has spent more than 25 years writing about hospitality and was most recently editor of The Caterer magazine, where she worked for 27 years, latterly overseeing its digital edition, daily online content, the group’s other market products, such as the Acorn Awards and the Cateys, in addition to the market-leading title.

Amanda now runs her own business offering editorial services and advising operators on PR, marketing and communications, and careers.

As well as being on the Board of Directors for Cartwheel she is chair of Hospitality Action’s fundraising and marketing communications national committee and a trustee of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts’ Adopt-A-School charity.
